The preview window exists because image compression is a visual decision. A file can meet a KB target and still be rejected if the face, text, ink, stamp, or edge crop is unclear.
Photos and signatures both need crop, dimensions, format, and compression controls, but the quality checks are different. A photo should preserve face detail and background rules, while a signature should preserve dark ink, clean edges, and enough whitespace to avoid cutting strokes.
For official uploads, read the requirement first. Some portals care about exact pixels, some care about maximum KB size, and some enforce both. Set dimensions before compression so the output is not repeatedly re-saved.
JPG and JPEG are usually safest for real photos and most application portals. PNG is better for sharp text, diagrams, transparency, and screenshots, but it can be larger for camera photos. WebP can be smaller, but not every older portal accepts it.
